Out of temper, stirred
to a mantra of degrees
I repeat to keep myself
awake in the kitchen, where
I might be blistering
tomatoes or toasting bread
in the rich kind of fat
for a midnight snack,
chocolate reaches a point
where I can only feel
the weight of it on my lip.
Sometimes your body
against mine passes through
this moment, stirred
down and sprawling.
